BeachesPolsteath Beach - this secluded beach near Mevagissey (you need to be fit to get there as it can only be accessed by going down steps) can be reached by walking up Church Street, then continue on up School Hill, turn right at Pentillie House then into Beach Road and following the costal footpath. Note that there are no facilities at the beach. Pentewan Beach - This beach belongs to the caravan site at Pentewan but is open to the public and it has car parking. Boat tripsA variety of boat and fishing trips are available from the harbour. The Mevagissey to Fowey ferry also runs from here from 1 March 30 September, timetables at the harbour or from the Tourist Information Centre. Note, the ferry only runs in good weather. There is a selection of shops in Mevagissey selling pasties, fish and chips, cream teas, takeaways etc. ShoppingThere are a variety of shops in Mevagissey ranging from the MiniMart (cash machine available here), gift shops, post office and hardware shop etc. St Austell has a variety of shops, the town is currently undergoing a re-building programme and the multi-storey car park has been demolished, the council have arranged alternative car parking, follow the signs in town. St Austell has several large supermarkets, Asda, Tesco, Co-op, Aldi and Lidl. At the roundabout on the road to Mevagissey there is a McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Travel Lodge and Costa Coffee. St Austell also has the largest undercover Market in the country; this is located at Par Moor and is open every Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday. There is a large shopping centre at Truro, this has all the usual high street shops and a flagship Marks & Spencer. Supermarkets available in Truro are Tesco and Sainsbury's. For a day out try Trago Mills at Dobwalls, near Liskeard. This is a large out of town retail outlet where you can buy almost anything. It also has lovely woodland riverside walks. Kingsley Village at Fraddon offers a taste of Cornwall – the very best that Cornwall grows, makes and creates, all under one roof. There is a food hall where everything is supplied directly by local farmers and producers – so you get to buy Cornish food at its freshest. The craft hall features the multitude of creativity fostered in Cornwall and inspired by its unique landscape and its long artistic heritage. Boddington's Berries - pick your own strawberries and raspberries open end May - August from 10am - 8pm, situated at the top of Tregoney Hill, Mevagissey. Lobbs Farm Shop, Heligan - This award wining farm shop contains a wide range of produce – meat counter, cheese counter, fruit and vegetables, dairy products, bread, soft drinks, local beers, local preserves, biscuits, chocolate, ice cream, smoked fish and many other items. TrainsThe nearest railway station is in St Austell, from here you can get the train to Plymouth and beyond. Newquay (via par), Truro, Camborne, Redruth, Falmouth, St Erth, Carbis Bay and St Ives. As Cornwall gets busy during the summer and parking in towns can be difficult, let the train take the strain! For a day out, why not go on the Bodmin to Wenford Steam Railway, they even offer Sunday lunch on the train.
